We're developers of affordable housing, so we naturally think that individual contribution and hope are important: stable housing can change a person, further a family's dream. Cascap has noticed the impact of energy cost. Electric bills now rival heating bills as the most costly utility expense and can threaten a families' ability to pay the rent or mortgage.
We try to design our buildings with high efficiency lighting and heating to reduce the burden on low income families and the environment. Sometimes it can be too expensive. With help from the Cambridge Energy Alliance, we're hopeful we'll keep housing affordable and reduce energy consumption and costs.
--Michael Haran, Chief Executive Officer, Cascap, Inc.

As a Realtor and LEED Accredited Professional, I completely welcome this initiative. I work with buyers, sellers and developers who want more information on and options for helping their homes have a positive impact on the environment. I talk to homeowners who want their homes to protect the natural resources which make their homes valuable. I work with sellers and developers who want to know what choices they can make to build and sell energy efficient homes. We need this cross-sector initiative.
As Realtors, we educate buyers and sellers about the value of their property and the benefits of their community. When real estate professionals learn more about the measures that Cambridge can and does take to implement energy efficiency, we will excel at demonstrating the value of investing in and living in Cambridge. I am sure the real estate community can contribute to and benefit from this initiative.
